Jason Lin

Toronto-based founder of Canuck Hire. He built and operates the platform end-to-end and writes about hiring practices and the Canadian labour market for small and mid-sized businesses.

Background

Jason's perspective on hiring comes from having done it. As co-founder at Gemlet, he spent over six years helping grow a Canadian retail business from a single location to six stores across the country. That meant recruiting, onboarding, managing turnover, juggling payroll and P&L, and making real hiring decisions with a budget that had hard limits. The problems he writes about are ones he has personally navigated.

He also served as a software engineer at Gemlet, building internal tools and systems to streamline operations and automate routine workflows. Before that, he worked as a financial analyst at Portland Private Equity in Burlington, Ontario.

In April 2026 he founded Threecus and, alongside it, built Canuck Hire from the ground up. The platform, including the search infrastructure, employer dashboard, PostGIS radius search, seeker verification flow, and privacy controls, is engineered and maintained by Jason solo.

Editorial standards

Every piece on this site is researched before it is published. Pay ranges are pulled from live postings and Statistics Canada earnings data, not generated. Hiring lists reference real active postings at time of publication. Dates are tracked and posts are refreshed quarterly. Where Jason is uncertain or where a claim needs verification, the text says so.
