Canuck Hire

Legal · Version 2026-05-07

Terms of Service

Plain English where we can. The lawyer-y bits are still lawyer-y. Effective May 7, 2026.

1. The agreement

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a contract between you and Canuck Hire (“Canuck Hire,” “we,” “us”) governing your use of the website at canuckhire.com, employers.canuckhire.com, and any related services (together, the “Service”).

By creating an account, posting a job, or applying to a job, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

2. Who can use Canuck Hire

You may use the Service if all of the following are true:

  • You are at least 16 years old.
  • You can form a legally binding contract under Canadian law (or, if outside Canada, the law that applies to you).
  • You haven't been previously banned from the Service.

If you're using Canuck Hire on behalf of a company, you represent that you're authorized to bind that company to these Terms.

3. Your account

You're responsible for the security of your account, including the password and any sessions you keep open. Tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized access.

You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current. Misrepresenting your identity, employer, or qualifications is grounds for suspension or termination.

4. If you're a job seeker

You may use the Service to:

  • Browse and apply to jobs.
  • Upload a resume and supporting documents.
  • Optionally complete identity verification through our partner, Stripe Identity, to receive a Verified badge.

Everything you submit must be truthful and your own work. Don't upload another person's resume or impersonate anyone. Don't apply to jobs you have no intention of accepting in good faith.

5. If you're an employer

You may use the Service to post real jobs you are actively trying to fill. You agree that:

  • Every posting represents a genuine, currently open role.
  • Postings comply with Canadian employment law, including the Employment Standards Act (or its equivalent in your province) and the Canadian Human Rights Act.
  • You will not include screening criteria that discriminate on prohibited grounds (race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, disability, conviction for which a pardon has been granted).
  • You will respond to applicants in good faith and will not use applicant data for any purpose other than evaluating them for the role they applied to.
  • You will not scrape, resell, or redistribute candidate data.

6. Prohibited content and conduct

Across all accounts, you agree not to:

  • Post jobs that don't exist, MLM schemes, “business opportunities” that require payment to start, or anything illegal.
  • Post content that is defamatory, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise unlawful.
  • Send unsolicited bulk messages or spam.
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, security controls, or access scopes.
  • Reverse engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the Service.
  • Use the Service to compete with Canuck Hire by building a substitute product.

We may remove content and terminate accounts that violate this section without prior notice.

7. The Verified seeker program

Identity verification is performed by Stripe Identity. We receive a verification result and a limited identity record; we do not receive or store your government ID images. The Verified badge means we have a reasonable basis to believe you are who you say you are — it is not a background check, employment reference, or credentials check.

Misuse of the Verified program (e.g., verifying with someone else's ID) results in immediate termination and may be reported to law enforcement.

8. Employer payments

Posting and applying are free. Employer subscriptions and premium features, when offered, are billed through Stripe in Canadian dollars unless otherwise stated.

All fees are non-refundable except where required by law. You can cancel a subscription at any time from your billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

9. Content and licences

You retain ownership of the content you submit (resumes, profiles, job postings). You grant Canuck Hire a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, and transmit that content as necessary to operate the Service.

Job postings are publicly searchable by design. Resumes and profile details are shown to employers under the rules described in our Privacy Policy.

All Canuck Hire branding, design, and software is owned by us. You don't get a licence to use those except as needed to use the Service normally.

10. We're a platform, not the employer

Canuck Hire connects job seekers and employers. We don't participate in the hiring decision. We don't guarantee that any job posting is real, that any employer will hire you, or that any candidate will be hired or perform well. We don't verify every claim in every posting or every resume.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Canuck Hire and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill arising out of your use of the Service.

Our aggregate liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) CAD $100.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, and nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited under applicable law.

12. Termination

You can close your account at any time from your profile settings. We can suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if we're required to by law, or if continuing to provide the Service to you would harm the Service or other users.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination — content licences for content you've made public, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute resolution — survive.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in Ontario. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, and you and Canuck Hire each consent to that jurisdiction.

If you're a consumer in another Canadian province, mandatory consumer protections in your home province still apply.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the version date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
