Why we exist
Hiring in Canada is broken in a specific way. The big aggregators are choked with stale postings, ghost jobs, and listings cross-posted from the US that ignore Canadian work eligibility. The premium tools are priced for enterprise HR teams, not the 12-person agency in Liberty Village or the founder hiring her second engineer.
And on the candidate side, the experience is worse. You apply to fifty postings, hear back from three, and never learn whether the other forty-seven were even real.
We started Canuck Hire to fix both ends.
What we do differently
- Canada-first. Every job is geo-tagged to a real Canadian city. No US imports, no remote-anywhere postings disguised as Toronto roles.
- Verified seekers. Candidates can opt into government ID verification through Stripe Identity. Employers see a Verified badge, not a guess.
- Free for seekers, transparent for employers. Posting and applying are free. Employers pay only for premium features they actually use.
- Privacy by default. Resumes are stored privately, not on a public CDN. We follow PIPEDA because we built for Canadians, in Canada.
Who's building this
Canuck Hire is built and operated by Jason Lin, a Toronto-based engineer who got tired of watching friends fight broken job-search tools. The whole product — the search infrastructure, the verification flow, the employer dashboard — is engineered as if it were a serious business, because it is.
We're small on purpose. Small means we read every job report, answer every employer email, and ship a fix the same week instead of next quarter.
