Summary: Volunteer Services Assistant role supports the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care by strengthening and sustaining an engaged volunteer community. The Volunteer Services Assistant provides responsive customer service to prospective and current volunteers, manages enquiries, and supports the recruitment process through screening and interviewing. The role also provides day-to-day administrative support to Volunteer Services, contributing to the effective coordination of programs that enhance the experience of individuals living with life-threatening illness, those at the end of life, and their families. Working within a culture that values balance, development, recognition, and inclusion, the Assistant helps advance equity, diversity, and inclusive practices across volunteer engagement and service delivery.

About the position

This position report to Coordinator of Volunteer Services . This position is located in Newmarket. The successful candidate is required to work onsite and will work at both locations, Margaret Bahen Hospice and Doane House Hospice.

The successful candidate for this position must have the following qualifications

This position is funded by the Government of Canada, under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program. To be eligible for any CSJ position, the candidate must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; and A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Enrollment in or graduation from a post-secondary program (diploma or degree) in office administration, human resources, volunteer management, business administration or combination of equivalent education and work experience. Successfully complete Vulnerable Sector Screening check within one month of employment.

The successful candidate for this position must possess the following skills and experience

Strong problem solving and communication skills. A minimum of 1-2 years of office administration experience in a busy office environment Experience working in the community services or healthcare sector is an asset. Experience working with volunteers and/or volunteering is an asset Provide High degree of professionalism and dedication to self, coworkers and clients. Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Be proficient in the use of computers, including the Microsoft Office suite. Provide excellent customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as a team member

The successful candidate for this position must be able to

Assist with administrative duties such as record keeping, inputting data, maintaining schedules, and scanning of documents. Maintain effective communication with residents, families, volunteers and other staff. Assist with volunteer recruitment and outreach programs e.g. youth fairs and farm markets if applicable. Assist with interviewing, screening and onboarding potential volunteers Assist in managing volunteer pages of organization website. Research and contribute to the monthly volunteer newsletter. Work Location : In person Note: This position is funded for 35 hours in total.
