The Microsoft Modern Workplace & Azure Deployment Architect is responsible for designing, leading, and delivering integrated Microsoft 365 and Azure transformations. This role ensures that identity, security, collaboration, and infrastructure are modernized together, aligned to business outcomes, and delivered securely at scale. The architect acts as a trusted advisor, translating business requirements into cloud‑first architectures while guiding customers through deployment, adoption, governance, and operational readiness.
This role reports to the Technical Team Leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver end‑to‑end M365 and Azure migrations and modernizations
- Establish secure, scalable identity‑first cloud foundations
- Reduce legacy infrastructure and technical debt
- Enable adoption, governance, and long‑term operational success
- Position customers for Copilot and AI readiness
- Lead Modern Workplace and Cloud readiness assessments
Entra ID (Azure AD)
- Microsoft 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams)
- Intune / Endpoint Management
- Azure IaaS, PaaS, and landing zones
- Defender and Purview security platforms
- Define SaaS vs IaaS vs PaaS strategies
- Align technical decisions to business outcomes (productivity, resiliency, security, cost)
- Design cloud‑first and hybrid identity models
Conditional Access and MFA
- Device‑ and risk‑based access
- Identity governance and privileged access
- Ensure identity consistency across Azure and M365 workloads
- Lead identity modernization away from legacy authentication models
- Lead tenant setup and core M365 configuration
Exchange migrations SharePoint / OneDrive migrations
- Teams collaboration and governance design
- Define governance for collaboration and external sharing
- Partner on user adoption, change management, and enablement
- Prepare environments for Copilot and AI workloads
- Lead Azure readiness and migration assessments
- Use Azure Migrate to assess workload dependencies, sizing, and risk
Management groups and subscriptions
- Networking (VNets, peering, VPN / ExpressRoute)
- Logging, monitoring, and cost controls
Legacy servers → Azure IaaS / PaaS File servers → SharePoint / OneDrive / Azure Files
- Applications → cloud‑optimized designs
- Optimize environments post‑migration for performance, security, and cost
- Embed Zero Trust principles across identity, endpoints, apps, data, and infrastructure
Defender for M365 and Defender for Cloud
- Intune security baselines
- Purview data classification, DLP, retention
- Design governance models for Azure resources and M365 collaboration
- Align solutions to regulatory and compliance requirements (where applicable)
- Own deployment plans, pilots, phased rollouts, and go‑live execution
- Manage risks, dependencies, and rollback strategies
Architecture and solution documentation
- Security and governance baselines
- Support handover to Managed Services or IT operations teams
Technical discovery
- Architecture validation
- Assessment and migration scoping
- Translate business needs into assessments, SOWs, and repeatable offers
- Identify opportunities for expansion (Security, Copilot, Managed Services)
Required Qualifications
- Deep hands‑on experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure
- Strong background in identity, security, and governance
- Experience leading cloud migrations and modern workplace deployments
- Ability to communicate effectively with IT leaders, security teams, and executives
- Proven consulting or professional services experience in a VAR/MSP environment
Certifications Required / Strongly Preferred
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
Highly Relevant / Preferred
- Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Information Protection and Compliance Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
Azure Solutions Architect Expert + M365 Enterprise Administrator Expert, with at least one Security/Identity and one Azure infrastructure or migration certification.

$160,000 to $162,000 annually + delivery team bonus
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Permanent, full-time, remote with expectation to go into office up to twice per month
