About this role

Job Summary:  Reporting to the Fabrication Supervisor, the Machinist is responsible for the set-up and operation of machinery specific to their area of responsibility in accordance with blueprints, drawings and/or verbal instructions. Overall Main Responsibilities: • Responsible to set-up, operate and maintain set-up for the following machinery as per company procedures • Operate lathes, milling machines and boring mills • Select appropriate cutting tools and machining procedures • Select appropriate machining parameters (machine feeds and speeds) • Maintain standard maintenance procedures on lathes, milling machines and boring mills • Inspect production product and material to ensure compliance with tolerance/quality standards. • Read production drawings. • Operate mobile equipment such as; forklifts and overhead cranes. • Record process sheets and daily work tickets. • Maintain a clean and organized work area. • Perform all other work activities as assigned and required. • Computer experience (pending machinery of specialization). Education and Knowledge Required: • Minimum high school diploma or recognized equivalent education is preferred. • Related trade certificate from a recognized post-secondary institute is beneficial. • Knowledge of machines and tools, including theirs designs, uses, repair, and maintenance • Combinations of education and experience will be considered assets. Experience and Technical Skills Required: • Ability to read blue prints will be considered an asset; applied work experience in doing so is strongly preferred. • Mechanical aptitude will be considered an asset; experience using measuring instruments is required. • Fork Lift and/or Crane Operator Licenses will be considered an asset but is not required; in house on-site training will be provided to those who require it. • Must have experience applying bending allowances and working with dyes. Abilities and Competencies Required: • Demonstrated positive attitude, initiative, and the ability to work well with others. • Must have strong attention to detail • Ability to effectively communicate in English – both written and verbal communication skills. • Excellent problem solving skills. • Organization and time management skills. • Computer experience will be considered an asset. • Above average attendance with a good performance record. • Ability to work with minimal supervision, and occasionally act as a temporary Supervisor. Working Conditions: • Job duties are performed in the production environment. • Constant exposure to variations in heat, cold, dust, chemicals, and production equipment. • Long periods of standing; moderate amounts of walking and the periodic requirement of lifting materials over 50 lbs. • Some overtime may be required. Initiated Learning Requirements: • Attends and participates in Company new hire orientation. • Participates in in-house health and safety training. • Participates in in-house Quality Assurance training. • Participates in in-house 5S training. • Participates in area related equipment, machinery and cross-training. Performance Improvement and Development Planning: • Continual review and update of training requirements. • Annual Performance review; completes performance self-assessment to contribute positively during review meeting. • Ongoing performance feedback from supervisor and team members.
