Instruct participants in the YMCA Karate Program. Develop and implement sequential weekly lesson plans based on the YMCA program syllabus. Assist the Lead Instructor with Gradings. Recognize participant learning styles and deliver content accordingly. Coach and develop participants for success. Communicate (verbally and in writing) each child's progress to parents and Supervisor. Maintain accurate, up-to-date weekly progress sheets and records for participants. Take attendance, ensuring participants are signed into and out of the program. Take down equipment as required, simultaneously checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (report immediately all malfunctions and remove the damaged equipment immediately from circulation). Build relationships with members and seek opportunities to share the YMCA story and educate members and guests about the YMCA as a Charity. Ensure qualifications and certifications as required by the YMCA and regulatory standards are current at all times. Actively participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events. Collaborate with individual program members, program volunteers, and YMCA program staff, assisting and encouraging program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location. Perform other duties as assigned

Take attendance and ensure participants are signed in and out of the program. Set up and take down classroom materials and equipment as needed. Ensure all equipment is safe and in good condition. Report any malfunctions or damaged equipment to the supervisor and remove unsafe items from use. Participate actively in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events. Assist and encourage program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location, in collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers, and YMCA program staff. Perform other duties as assigned.

Coordinate the program delivery of all Teen Nights staff and volunteers with a focus on building and facilitating participant relationships. Responsible for the support and facilitation of Teen Council weekly meetings; this includes attending weekly program planning, organizing, promotion, partnerships development and delivery efforts. Ensure that all Teen Nights programming/activities are intentionally designed to achieve identified youth participant outcomes. Coach staff and volunteers to ensure compliance with Healthy Adolescent Development standards and expectations as outlined in program theory and audit tool. Recruit Teen Council members and other Teen Nights volunteers. Deliver training, coaching and mentoring of local staff and volunteers related to Healthy Adolescent Development, Teen Nights Program Theory, and program quality standards as defined by program quality audit tool. Complete and submit monthly program activity calendar and curriculum plan on a monthly basis. Complete and submit annual program self-assessment and enhancement plans as outlined in Teen Nights Program Plan At-a-Glance tool. Facilitate program self-assessment, quality audit and program continuous improvement/enhancement planning processes. Ensure the safety of all activities and programs throughout the program and respond immediately to rectify all safety, injury and emergency concerns. Responsible for encouraging a positive environment and deal effectively and professionally with YMCA members concern. Remains visible and approachable at all times. Continuously build positive relationships with all staff, volunteers and participants. Build relationship with participants and pro-actively seek opportunities to challenge participants to seek appropriate and progressively challenging positive youth development opportunities. Encourage and provide a wide variety of both formal and informal opportunities for youth leadership, voice and ongoing program feedback. Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and monitored to ensure safe and effective participant and volunteer participation. In collaboration with Teen Council members, program staff and volunteers assist and encourage program participants to access additional appropriate YMCA and community development offerings support programs. Perform other duties as assigned
Be between 16 to 30 years of age at the start of the employment; Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. It is a funding requirement of this position that candidates must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
Current Standard First Aid & CPR level C or Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AED is an asset Minimum 1 year of active Karate training Experience teaching Youth Leadership an asset
Current Red Cross Youth Leader Certification. Current Standard First Aid & CPR level C or Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AED an asset. Proficient in presentation software, audio-visual equipment, and online learning platforms. Good theoretical and practical knowledge of various stages of child and youth development through previous related experience and continuing professional development. Evidence of continuing professional development in working with children and youth. Ability to encourage and motivate members and volunteers and acknowledge and appreciate achievements and contributions.
Diploma or degree in field related to working with children or youth or equivalent experience Current certifications in the following Lifesaving Society awards: Standard First Aid & CPR level C or Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AED is an asset Current NCCP Basketball Coaching certification (Learn to Train level) Minimum 1-year previous experience Instructing Children and Teens in Basketball Good theoretical and practical knowledge of various stages of child and youth development through previous related experience and continuing professional development Ability to encourage and motivate members and volunteers and acknowledge and appreciate achievements and contributions Evidence continuing professional development in working with children and youth
Post-secondary education in the field of Recreation and Leisure, youth/social work or related field Certification from YMCA Canada in Healthy Adolescent Development Minimum 1 – 2 years’ previous experience in youth outreach or youth leadership development programs Previous supervisory experience is an asset Demonstrated experience in effective coaching and development skills Ability to encourage and motivate participants, volunteers and staff and to acknowledge and appreciate achievements and contributions Ability to deal effectively with escalated participant concerns and achieve successful outcomes Excellent planning and organizational skills; detail-oriented Evidence of continuing professional development in working with youth an asset Current Standard First Aid/CPR or Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AED is an asset
