L'Arche welcomes Assistants to live, work, and learn together with adults with developmental disabilities (core members) in our communities. L'Arche strives to shape a more human and just society by offering people of different abilities an experience of companionship, community, and belonging. We looking to welcome a Community Support worker. This is a temporary 8-week position (35 hours per week). It's a good fit for applicants looking for experience supporting people with development disabilities in a group home. Main responsibilities: Build respectful and mutual relationships with Core Members (e.g., listening with empathy, providing emotional support and encouragement, sharing stories and activities together). Foster a welcoming and inclusive home atmosphere that reflects the personality and preferences of all house members. Encourage active participation in the home and community. Maintain accurate documentation in all areas as directed: financial, medical, log notes, medication, incident reports, assessments, etc. Observe and report changes in health, behaviors, and well-being. Respond to emergencies and provide First Aid when needed. Provide respectful assistance with all aspects of daily living: hygiene, grooming, dressing, eating, mobility, etc. Support meal planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and safe food handling. Assist Core Members with money management, appointments, transportation, and household chores. Assist in maintaining the physical home, vehicle, and equipment, including cleaning and housekeeping tasks, seasonal yard care, minor repairs, etc. Accompany Core Members on outings including places of worship, social and recreational, shopping, etc. Who can apply for this job? To apply for this job, you must: Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job; Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible. You can only work one full-time job funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program at a time.
