Position Summary: The position under the direct supervision of and directly reporting to the Comptroller, the Accounting Technician will be responsible for a variety of accounting, finance and contract duties. This position will perform the finance, accounting and reporting primarily for Saskatoon Tribal Council Inc. programs and other programs or departments as assigned. These duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Responsibilities: Provide the STC Inc. programs with financial services and regular reporting. Provide cover off and support to other STC programs and departments. For year-end audits, assist in preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and providing samples to the auditors; Accounting Prepare and issue purchase orders for programs and activities; Prepare and process payments for clients, programs and project; Maintain the accounts receivable and payable sub-ledgers according to the STC Policy and financial procedures Maintain financial transactions in the Sage 300 software system and financial data in the funder’s reporting system; Prepare receipts for deposit; Regular reconciliation of accounts as required; Perform accounting and finance duties on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as assigned by supervisor. Clerical and Administrative Prepare regular financial reports as per supervisor’s direction; Maintain the filing and records systems as required; Distribute payment advice and other financial information as required; Perform other clerical and administrative duties as assigned by supervisor. Other Duties Complete other duties within the Finance departments as assigned by supervisor. Working Environment: Standard office environment; Travel to communities for assisting upon request. Education and Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience in finance and accounting; Completion of a minimum two-year secondary school course in accounting or another business-related field; Previous experience working with the Sage 300 accounting program as well as the MS Office programs such as Excel and Word and ADP Work Force; Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint with an ability to easily learn new software applications. Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, history is considered an asset. Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Must have a working knowledge of and skill in accounting software, Sage 300 preferably; Must demonstrate skills in PC software applications, specifically the MS Office programs (Excel and Word); Must demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written); Must be a team player and work well with other team members; Must possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s license and meet STC’s insurance requirements; and Knowledge of federal and provincial funding agreements would be an asset; Analytical, decision making and the ability to recognize challenges, identify causes and provide solutions. Able to work independently, submit accurate documentation, and seek guidance when needed.
