Imperial Dade Canada, a leading national distributor, has a job opening in Montreal. This position is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP. The position will develop and monitor compliance with accounting policies and provide accounting guidance to ensure accuracy in reporting and compliance with US GAAP, tax regulations, & accounting policies. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for general ledger journal entries, month-end close procedures, and analyzing balances in accounts for appropriateness. This position performs account reconciliations and is required to have detailed knowledge of assigned general ledger accounts and their contents. This position is required to meet all scheduled monthly financial reporting and provide accurate and timely analysis and research as needed.
Core Accounting & Financial Close
Maintain assigned general ledger and/or subsidiary ledger accounts, including reviewing documentation, preparing supporting schedules, recording journal entries in accordance with US GAAP, and performing monthly reconciliations. Assist in the month-end and year-end close activities. Perform analysis and review of large volumes of transaction-level data to ensure proper accounting. Review financial results for completeness by preparing various reports, schedules, and reconciliations. Take responsibility for additional or supplemental accounting area(s) as assigned.
Technical Expertise & Compliance
Acts as the subject matter expert in assigned accounting area(s). Develop & maintain technical proficiency in US or local GAAP relevant to assigned accounting area(s). Support external reporting requirements for various governmental agencies. Support internal and external audits by providing accounting documentation, schedules, and analyses.
Leadership, Independence, & Special Projects
Work independently with minimal supervision. Interact frequently cross-functionally to support business and financial requirements. Take leadership roles in special projects or other initiatives as assigned. Perform related duties and responsibilities.
Education & Professional Credentials
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university, Accounting major preferred. 4+ years of progressive, relevant accounting experience. Professional Certification (CPA, CFA, CIA, or CMA) considered an asset.
Technical & Accounting Expertise
Advanced understanding of US or local GAAP and general accounting principles. Intermediate knowledge of technical accounting research. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to review and interpret large volumes of data. High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness. Exposure to project management principles
System & Tools
Advanced MS Excel skills including pivot tables and data analysis. Proficiency with Microsoft Access, PowerPoint, and Word.
Communication & Collaboration
Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and French with a professional, positive demeanor. Ability to interact effectively with colleagues across departments, head office, and with external vendors and suppliers. French required for Montreal position. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
